MSc in Geospatial & Mapping Sciences
An INDUSTRY SPONSORED PROGRAMME introduced in 2007
The MSc in Geospatial & Mapping Sciences is a new Master’s programme available full or part-time for those seeking a career in Geomatics (land and engineering surveying, hydrographic surveying, land registration/cadastre and LIS, photogrammetry and remote sensing, or the management of geospatial information). The focus of the programme is on understanding the theory and practice of geospatial data collection, data and information quality, applications of survey information and research and development in the field of Geomatics. The programme has been developed in close collaboration with industry to meet the global demand for professionals and researchers in this field and the academic requirements for membership of relevant professional bodies. It is also possible to study for a Postgraduate Certificate, a Postgraduate Diploma or to attend individual courses for continuing professional development (CPD).
Career Prospects:
There is currently a world wide shortage of qualified professionals in many of the aspects covered by the course which has been reflected in the very high rate of employment of our graduates in recent years. The Department has an extensive network of contacts in the industry and is often approached directly by employers seeking to fill vacancies.
Fully accredited with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. It includes a wide range of hands-on experience of using state-of-the-art equipment and software. An emphasis on practical problem solving and presentation skills builds useful key skills.
A number of scholarships will be available for 2010.
