Research title Saltmarsh responses to climate change. Summary of research The research aims to characterise the sedimentary status and geomorphology of saltmarsh and mudflat habitats, assessing their resilience in the face of climate change under rising sea level, increased storminess and sediment supply changes; and to use the above to provide baseline data with which to model
responses.
Based in the Solway Firth, southwest Scotland, the research will involve examination of existing and recent historical mudflat and saltmarsh sedimentary regime using a variety of geomorphological techniques. These will include the use of anthropogenic derived radionuclides to relate past and current sedimentation rates and patterns to storm events.
