Research title

Nigeria Factor: A Novel Exploring Neoliberalism, Violence, and the Student Movement in Contemporary Nigeria.

Summary of research

PhD research:
Through the site of Nigerian student politics, I explore how forms of violence (discursive and material), embedded in a neoliberalising society, may complicate reconciliation and democratisation efforts. My research methodology and dissertation will blend elements of human geography and creative writing.

Other research interests:
-radical geographies reading group (rg2) co-founded with Jo Norcup
-Marxism, deconstructionism and its critics, interdisciplinary / postdisciplinary critiques of neoliberalism
-History of the social sciences, with current projects on Kropotkin and Kant's anthropology
-Feminist history of medicine, with current projects on Victorian herbalism and antipsychiatry
-Creative writing and performance collaborations with academics, intellectuals, and artists. Recent projects include work as Political Dramaturge for 'Petrified Paradise,' a piece of verbatim theatre about the detention system produced by A Moment's Peace Theatre Company and performed at the Arches in Glasgow in September 2006; and 'Edge of Eden,' a dialogue between a photographic collection and creative writing exploring the geographies of a Vermont asbestos town (photographer Conohar Scott), performed at Glasgow University's Material Worlds Conference, 2005.
