Research title Biomarkers in snow and ice archives. Summary of research In my PhD project I will analyze biomarkers deposited via atmospheric transport and stored in snow or ice. During year 2009 I will receive training in organic geochemistry methods in the new Glasgow Molecular Organic Geochemistry Laboratory (G-MOL). Together with my supervisors I'm planning a field research campaign for spring 2010, to collect new ice and / or samples for my research. Possible field work areas include Japan, Svalbard and Greenland.
Personal background
I graduated as MSc in Physics in May 2008, from the University of Helsinki. I wrote my Master's thesis ("Melt pond coverage and temporal evolution at drifting station Tara in summer 2007", unpublished) in the Finnish Institute of Marine Research, under supervision of Dr Jari Haapala.
I spent the academic year 2002-2003 studying Arctic Geophysics in the University Centre on Svalbard, Norway. I had undergraduate summer jobs as a research assistant in Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory and Finnish Meteorological Institute. I also have a MA in Finnish Literature, completed in the University of Helsinki in January 2008.
