Biography Since 1986, I have been employed in the Geomatics section of the Department on various contracts as Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant.
After graduating from the Department with a Geography Degree (including Honours options in Surveying and Photogrammetry) in 1973, I was employed as a Photogrammetric technician by Hunting Surveys and Consultants. Following that I became a Cartographic editor with Wm Collins Sons & Co Ltd.
In 1986, I returned to the Department to assist with practical teaching in the Geomatics section, initially on the Photogrammetric and Cartographic side. Over the years my duties have widened to include Surveying and GIS and I am now involved in all aspects of Geomatics teaching (lectures and practical classes)and research as well as assisting with various Labs in Level 1, 2 and 3 Geography Research interests Throughout the time I have been employed in the Department I have been involved in numerous research projects involving Geomatics input. Most have involved photogrammetric aspects of environmental monitoring. The most recent project established a methodology for monitoring change in Scottish beaches. Previous contracts include mapping upland vegetation in Scotland and evaluating changes in peat supplies in the Outer Hebrides. Most recently, terrestrial laser scanning has been used to provide a more accurate base line to monitor future change.
