Latest News
August 2009 - Lake Kutubu, Papua New Guinea: I'm off to PNG to recover modern vegetation and water samples, as well as short and long cores from Lake Kutubu and its catchment. This is a collaborative effort that is being led by Dr Simon Haberle at the Australian National University, Canberra.
July 2009 - RCUK Advanced Summer School, Lanzhou University, China: I was invited to give some lectures at the 'Tracking environmental change in dryland regions using lake sediments' summer school led by the Environmental Change Research Centre, UCL and the Center for Arid Environment and Paleoclimate, Lanzhou University. It involved 10 Ph.D and Post Docs from the UK and 20 Ph.D and Post Docs from China - further info can be found at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/news-articles/0908/09080301
July 2009 - Coring Hokkaido lake sediments: Led by James Bendle of GES, it was back to Hokkaido to take long sediment cores from two promising lake sites found during the previous years lake survey. The team included myself, James Bendle and Osamu Seki (Hokkaido) and Allison DeYoung (McGill intern). The work is supported by grants from Royal Society (International Joint Project), the RGS-IBG EPSRC and the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland.
