Research interests My overall research interests can be described as being concerned with the policy and management interfaces for biological conservation and resource management, particularly relating to issues involving to water bodies, wet lands and associated environments. I have a particular interest in the environmental consequences of water based recreation. I contend that not only is recreational use of water the major economic use of water in more developed (and increasingly less developed) countries but also that most recxreational use is sustainable. Current research My current and continuing research interests involve the programmes in Brazil and Scotland described above, and in developing functional ecological approaches to research in biological conservation and resource management. I am also interested in theoretical bases for recreation resource management, such as recreational carrying capacity, and the application of ecological and other models to recreation management.
