Biography I obtained my first degree in Geology from Durham University (2000) then indulged my interests in volcanism by spending four months volunteering at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory before starting my PhD (Rhyolite Volcanism in Iceland: Timing and Timescales of Eruption) in the Ar-Ar lab at The University of Manchester.
After completing my PhD, I briefly ventured into the fields of geoarchaeoloy (studying sources of Neolithic obsidian in Turkey) and teaching development (preparing online course material and supplementary information) at Manchester. I’ve recently returned to the world of Ar-Ar dating with my current post at the Open University, which compares Ar-isotopic data and feldspar microtextures, with the intention of better understanding issues such as multi-diffusional domain modelling and how post-crystallisation processes affect the Ar-system. This project is funded by NERC and I am working with Sarah Sherlock, Simon Kelley and Martin Lee. |
